Megalodon Shark Teeth

Authentic Megalodon Teeth Collection

Explore our excellent selection of high-quality Megalodon teeth, guaranteed authentic. The Megalodon was the largest shark ever to live, dominating the Miocene and Pliocene eras with lengths reaching 60 feet. Known for the highest estimated bite force of any animal (up to 180,000 newtons), this massive predator hunted whales and other large marine mammals.

Our specimens showcase the Megalodon's signature serrated cutting edges and lack of side cusps. While these teeth rarely exceed 6 to 6.5 inches, we proudly offer several rare specimens measuring over 6 inches. Our inventory features finds from premier localities including Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Sharktooth Hill (California), Chile, and Peru. All top quality 5"+ teeth include a custom display stand.

Why Collectors Invest in Authentic Megalodon Shark Teeth

Collectors value authentic megalodon shark teeth for more than their impressive size. Each specimen represents a physical record of an extinct marine predator and offers clues about ancient environments. Provenance also adds interest, giving collectors greater context for understanding where a tooth originated.

At Buried Treasure Fossils, we appreciate specimens that combine scientific interest with distinctive fossil preservation.

What to Look for in Megalodon Shark Teeth

When evaluating a specimen, examine the serration pattern, enamel surface, root condition, and overall symmetry. Color alone does not establish authenticity, since fossilization varies significantly by location. A bone valley megalodon tooth, for example, may display preservation characteristics associated with its Florida fossil locality.

For authentic megalodon shark teeth, review the specimen’s measurements and available locality information before purchasing. Get in touch with our team with questions and additional details about specimens in our collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are megalodon shark teeth found in different geological deposits? Yes. Megalodon fossils occur in marine sediments from several regions, reflecting the shark's broad distribution in ancient oceans. Local geological conditions influenced how individual teeth were preserved after burial.

What makes an old shark tooth valuable to collectors? Collector interest depends on several characteristics rather than age alone. Species identification, preservation quality, morphology, provenance, and the specimen's overall appearance all contribute to its appeal. A well-preserved tooth with clearly defined features may offer more detail for examination, giving collectors a closer look at the anatomy of an extinct shark. Locality also adds geological context, since specimens from different deposits may show distinct preservation characteristics.

What should I look for in photos of a megalodon tooth for sale? Look for photographs that show the tooth from several angles, including the front, back, root, and cutting edges. Close-up images are useful for examining serrations, enamel preservation, and visible repairs. Consistent lighting also gives you a clearer impression of the specimen's actual surface and coloration.
