Snaggletooth Shark Teeth (Hemipristis)
Buried Treasure Fossils: Snaggletooth Shark Teeth Collection
Buried Treasure Fossils offers top-quality Snaggletooth shark teeth for sale, featuring Hemipristis specimens with perfect serrations from premier locations such as Bone Valley, Lee Creek, South Carolina, Sharktooth Hill, and Morocco. These fossil teeth are beautiful and sought after for their unique, varying designs across different tooth positions.
Our collection includes two Hemipristis species, with teeth ranging in age from the Eocene to the Pliocene. Whether you are a seasoned collector or a beginner, you will find exceptional specimens here. Authenticity is guaranteed on every purchase.
Why Locality Decides What Color You Get
Snaggletooth shark teeth take their color from where they were collected. Bone Valley material out of Polk County runs from golden tan through black and dark blue, set against a bright white root, and some crowns carry the fine streaking collectors call lightning strikes. Lee Creek teeth lean blue to tan over a brown root, which reads more muted in a frame.
Position matters as much as locality. Upper jaw teeth are the broad serrated blades the species is known for. Lower jaw teeth are narrower and more hooked, and the good ones keep both side cusps intact. Cusps break first, so check that detail before anything else.
Buried Treasure Fossils names the county, formation, and the jaw position on every Hemipristis fossil in this catalog. Collectors asking what makes fossils genuine should know these teeth are seldom outright faked, though recolored and repaired examples circulate, which is why a stated locality is worth more than a stated grade.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I tell an upper jaw tooth from a lower jaw tooth? Uppers are broad triangular blades with coarse serrations down both edges. Lowers are narrower, more strongly hooked, and carry small side cusps at the base. Many collectors want one of each, since a single tooth shows only half the dentition.
Why do Bone Valley teeth have white roots? Phosphate chemistry in the Florida sediment. Crown and root mineralized differently, so the enamel took on a dark color while the root stayed pale. That contrast is why Bone Valley material is bought on eye appeal alone.
What are lightning strikes on a crown? Pale streaking that runs through the enamel, created by mineral variation during fossilization. It is natural, specific to certain Florida material, and treated as a desirable trait rather than a defect.
Does tip wear matter on these? Less than you might expect. Serration quality and intact cusps carry more weight than a perfect tip, and listings here separate a perfect tooth from one with tip wear, so the difference is already priced in.
