These teeth exhibit classic Frill shark design with a central cusp flanked by two lateral cusps. The crown is near complete (central cusp end damage) and the root is complete. A rare EXTRA LARGE, 3-7/16" TOP QUALITY, Lee Creek Otodus chubutensis, a O. megalodon predecessor, from Aurora, No. Carolina. A February Fossil of the Month. This tooth was found in the Pungo River Formation (middle Miocene age). Note the crown exhibits large cusplike bumps at the base of the serrated edge and the root ends also show grooves where the teeth interlocked. These are characteristic traits of the Lee Creek early Meg - Otodus chubutensis. A gorgeous tan colored crown with a fantastic red-tan bourlette. Incredible serrations with a needle-like tip serration! Serrations are just about 100% complete (1 with very minor damage). The root is light tan colored with very small cracks.
