A LARGE, Top Quality, Triceratops horridus toe bone (pes digit) from the late Cretaceous of northern North America. Triceratops was a large ceratopsian dinosaur found in the Hell Creek and Lance Creek formations which is know for three horns and the large frill protecting its neck. This is an excellent toe bone with excellent detail preserved and good color / patina. This is the large toe II - digit 1 bone. You can see the "mushroom" appearance of proximal ends which is a characteristic of Triceratops and distinguishes it from a Hadrosaur toe bone. Triceratops bones are more difficult to find. A FANTASTIC polished display piece with two exposed EXTRA LARGE ammonites and an orthoceras. A third ammonite is also exposed when viewed from the top. All showing the intricate internal chamber structure.The rock matrix is a beautiful marble material and the Ammonite cavities are mineral filled! A rare Top Quality Triceratops horridus caudal vertebra from the late Cretaceous of northern North America. A November Fossil of the Month. Triceratops was a large ceratopsian dinosaur found in the Hell Creek formation which is known for three horns and a large frill protecting its neck. This is a caudal (tail) vertebra with exceptional detail preserved with great color and patina. You can see the vertebra surface is very rugous and the vertebra is very thick with a very round centra which are characteristics of Triceratops and distinguishes it from a Hadrosaur. Triceratops bones are more difficult to find. Please note that the left transverse porcess and the spinous process were professionally restored. This is now specimen compete. It is extremely rare to find vertebra that are complete. Legally collected on private land in Powder River Co., Montana. It comes with the custom steel stand as shown.
