A beautifully perserved Miocene Platybelodon (Gomphotherium relative) molar.  This strange ancestral elephant had two large shovel tusks on the front of its lower jaw. Excellent evenly worn cusps. An EXTRA LARGE, Paraspirifer bownockeri brachiopod from the Silica Shale Fm., Sylvania, Ohio. Brachiopods are bivalve molluscs, and this is a big one. Both valves present  - complete specimen and matrix free. Note -  1-1/4" thick and heavy! This is a Devonian (395 mya) brachiopod. The big Silica Fm. brachiopod.
