The NE area of No. Carolina is famous for producing the rare copper-red colored shark teeth - Megalodons, Angustidens, Auriculatus, Great White, Mako teeth and more from the Eocene Castle Hayne Fm., Miocene Pungo River Fm., and Pliocene Yorktown formation. The teeth are richly colored, well preserved, and quite rare. Unfortunately the few rivers that produce these teeth yield very few teeth so the quantity of these copper-red teeth is quite limited which adds to their value and collectability. An EXTRA LARGE ultra rare, Top Quality Red Site Otodus megalodon tooth from the Meherrin River, North Carolina. A January Fossil of the Month. This Megalodon is a BIG upper jaw anterior tooth from the Meherrin River copper-red site. Excellent copper red color. The enamel is the highest quality, and there is a cool bite mark on the display side (see the 3rd photo). The serrations are large, razor sharp, and essentially complete with a good tip serration. Bourlette is extra large and brown - dentin layer. The root is wide & complete. A Pliocene Meg tooth. Note - the front center strip of enamel was professionally restored (high point of the tooth only).
