What is a fossil?
It depends on who you ask. A collector may tell you that dinosaur fossils for sale are amazing artifacts from a prehistoric world. Paleontologists at Idaho State University explain more scientifically. There are two kinds of fossils as well as two ways that fossils are made. Body fossils are the mineralized remains of plants or animals that lived and died in the geologic past. Trace fossils such as dinosaur tracks are stony indicators that long-ago life was present at a particular place and time. Bodies and traces may be preserved with or without alteration. Non-alteration modes of preservation include mummification and freezing. Shells remains are also considered unaltered fossils. According to ISU, preservation modes that do alter remains include permineralization and carbonization. Fossils are clues that paleontologists use to learn about animals that have gone extinct. Fossil remains such as dinosaur bones, teeth, and tracks offer fantastic evidence of life on earth long before there were humans to write history. Everything that scientists know about dinosaurs comes from fossil records, explains the American Museum of Natural History.

An Ultra Rare, TOP QUALITY Spinosaurus aegyptiacus foot (pes) claw from the Kem Kem region of Morocco. An excellent manus claw with excellent natural color and patina. The surface quality is exceptional with no pitting, nicks or wear! Great white patina. Fully inflated. The articulated end is complete. No crack fill. No restoration. An exceptional quality, collector's claw. Authenticity guaranteed. I do not see fine quality Spinosaurus claws very often and this isa good one. This is what a real Spinosaurus claw looks like. Spinosaurus claws with this quality are quite rare!

A Top Quality Tyrannosaur tooth from the late Cretaceous (Campanian) in northern North America. An October Fossil of the Month. Please note that this tooth could Gorgosaurus or Daspletosaurus - see Detailed Discussion below. This tooth measures 2-3/8" - an excellent Tyrannosaur tooth. The enamel is high quality with excellent color. Anterior serrations and posterior serrations are excellent. Serrated to the tip. Note - the top has some minor planting etching and there is one natural wear facet on the side (very typical for the Campanian Tyrannosaurs). No cracks, repair or restoration. Legally collected on private land in the Judith River Fm., McCone Co., Montana. Probably an excellent Gorgosaurus tooth based on size and roundness of the tooth cross-section. An ultra rare, Top Quality Torvosaurus gurneyi tooth from the Jurassic (Kimmeridgian) of Portugal. A March Fossil of the Month. This is the 2nd Torvosaurus species with a complete crown measures 2". The enamel is highest quality. Excellent black color. Excellent extra large posterior and anterior serrations. Note - the anterior carina end about 2/3 of the way down from the tip. The diagnostic for a Torvosaurus tooth. Excellent overall enamel condition. A small tip repair (see UV photo). The serration reconstruction is exceptional. No restoration. Torvosaurus was a large predator during the late Jurassic with large teeth designed to slash predators. Collected in the Lourinha Fm., Port Dinheiro, Lourinha, Portugal . Authenticity guaranteed. A rare Top Quality Triceratops horridus dorsal vertebra from the late Cretaceous of northern North America. An April Fossil of the Month. Triceratops was a large ceratopsian dinosaur found in the Hell Creek formation which is known for three horns and a large frill protecting its neck. This is a dorsal vertebra with exceptional detail preserved with good color and patina. Complete specimen. You can see the vertebra surface is very rugous with a very round centra which are characteristics of Triceratops and distinguishes it from a Hadrosaur. Triceratops bones are more difficult to find. This specimen has some cracks filled. No restoration. It is extremely rare to find vertebra that are complete. Legally collected on private land in Harding Co., South Dakota. A LARGE, very rare Top Quality, Camptosaurus toe claw (pes claw). A March Fossil of the Month. Camtposaurus is a Jurassic ornithischian dinosaur related to the "duck bill" dinosaurs. It grew about 16 feet in length, and its name means "flexible lazard". It was a long-legged, bidel herbivore that relied on speed and agility to avoid predators. This Camptosaurus toe claw measures 3-5/8". These claws resemble carnivore claws. Highest quality bone. Great rich dark brown color. Excellent overall condition.
