A 2nd May 2016 Fossil of the Month is a GEM light brown colored "Picture" Megalodon - PRINCIPAL ANTERIOR tooth. Fantastic colors - a mix of light brown, reddish brown, some blue and charcoal highlights. Highest quality enamel - glass-like surface with no hydration cracks. The finest enamel preservation - very rare! A very nice deep brown bourlette - 100% complete. Razor sharp serrations including an excellent tip serration. This Megalodon has an excellent brown colored crown with mottled brown color shades and an excellent gold & brown colored bourlette. Highest quality enamel. Fantastic color! A transitional tooth leading to C. auriculatus (see detailed discussion below) which leads to Megalodon. The bourlette is complete. Tooth exhibits very fine serrations along the inner curve of the crown only. These teeth exhibit very good color, gloss, and preservation. A rare, early Eocene Auriculatus transition tooth. A very challenging tooth to find when building a Megalodon evolutionary set!
