An EXTRA LARGE Top Quality, Carcharodon hastalis,  Mako shark tooth (lower anterior jaw tooth) from the Lee Creek mine, Aurora, No. Carolina. Note - This tooth exhibits the classic characteristic shape of the middle Miocene Mako teeth found both in the Lee Creek mine and the NC red site. I do not see this Mako tooth shape from other Miocene deposits. Possibly a hastalis species variation and it is referred to as the "narrow form". Maximum size is approximately 2". This tooth has a rich blue & tan crown and a tan colored root. Excellent colors!  Razor sharp cutting edge. Excellent preservation - note nutrient hole on root. A GEM quality Chubutensis tooth - an upper jaw anterior tooth from So. Carolina. Otodus chubutensis or Chubutensis is the extinct ancestor of the Megalodon shark. An August Fossil of the Month. A LARGE Ultra Rare, Top Quality Pachychephalosaurus wyomingensis premaxillary tooth from the late Cretaceous of northern North America.  This tooth is often referred to as the Pachy "Fang". There are posterior serrations present on this tooth. There is also a small wear facet on the tip (quite common). Pachychephalosaurus is the dinosaur which is famous for its large domed head surrounded by spikes. The enamel is excellent quality with great color and patina. A rare, EXTRA LARGE Top Quality Tyrannosaur tooth from the late Cretaceous (Campanian) in northern North America. Please note that this tooth could be Gorgosaurus or Daspletosaurus - see Detailed Discussion below. A July Fossil of the Month. This tooth measures 3-1/16" - an excellent Tyrannosaur tooth. An EXTRA LARGE, Top Quality Ankylosaurus osteoderm (bony armor plate) from the late Cretaceous of northern North America. Ankylosaurus magniventris was the largest Ankylosaur which grew to 30 feet and 17000 pounds, and a body covered with this bony armor. A complete body osteoderm plate from an adult Ankylosaurus. The bone quality is excellent with excellent color and patina. This osteoderm has a high ridge on one side. There are some hydration cracks and crack fill. No restoration. An Ultra Rare, Extra Large Pappocetus lugardi (Andrews, 1920) pre-molar tooth from Morocco. Pappocetus was in the Protocetidae family of ancient whales . Note - molar tooth design is one of the distinguishing features for indentifying this species. This material is a new find and represents one of the earliest transition forms of the whale. Pappocetus is a protocetid (see discussion below) and a large amphibious aquatic carnivore. Pappocetus is also an ancestor of the Basilosaurus. This material is complete and without repair. Crack fill only on some pieces. This is an opportunity to own an incredibly rare specimen from an early evolutionary stage of the modern whale. A fantastic collector's specimen.
