A TOP QUALITY Chubutensis tooth from Peru - an upper jaw tooth. Another February Fossil of the Month. An incredible tan and red colored crown with no peel. Highest quality enamel. Fantastic extra large side cusps. Extra large and sharp serrations are incredible including a good tip serration. The bourlette is a light tan color and 100% complete. Extra wide. The root is excellent brown color, nicely articulated, and nearly complete The only challenge with this tooth is some minor root repair at the very base of the root (see black colored area). An incredibly colored, extra large Peruvian Chubutensis tooth! You won't see any more like this Chub. A GEM Chubutensis tooth from the Miocene of Georgia. A Gray and Tan colored Chub tooth with a root beer colored bourlette and a brown root. Fantastic colors! The enamel is the Highest Quality with mirror-like gloss and only a single small hydration crack. An exceptional  bourlette with no peel and essentially perfect. Extra large, razor sharp serrations including an excellent tip serration. The root is nicely articulated and complete with no hydration cracks and excellent grooves on the root ends. This definitely an early Miocene tooth. Note - these Georgia Megs abd Chubs are fantastic - essentially no sign of wear and excellent perservation. An exceptional collector's Chubutensis tooth from Georgia. No repair. No restoration. Excellent preservation, serrations, and serration detail. The Edestus shark would have an upper and lower tooth whorl that are vertically opposed. Research showed that they could use their opposing teeth in a scissor-like motion or a vertical whipping motion to cut prey. It is the first animal to cut vertically.
