The phosphate mines have exposed a wealth of marine fossils dating from the Cretaceous to Eocene ages (110-35 million years ago). Shark teeth from this location are a creamy white to butterscotch colored and exhibit great preservation. The local people use very crude methods to extract these fossil teeth.
