An exceptional, EXTRA LARGE Scaldicetus sp., a Sperm whale, ear bone (Tympanic bulla) from Caldera area of Chile. An incredible late Miocene Sperm whale tooth from the Bahia Inglesa Fm. An August Fossil of the Month. This is the largest ear bone that I have seen - possibly from the giant Livyatan melvillei sperm whale? This ear bone (Tympanic bulla) is complete and incredibly high quality. The nicest and largest one that I have seen. 100% complete with a small amount of matrix on the back side. It has exceptional preservation, fantastic brown color, and is exceptionally clean. Note this item has a shipping weight of 2.5 lbs. No repair or restoration. Authenticity guaranteed. Details

Scaldicetus is an extinct genus of a highly predatory sperm whale that lived in the middle to late Miocene. Scaldicetus had large teeth with irregularly wavy enamel on their conical crowns. Probable Megalodon food source along with other whale species. Chile produces exceptional Scaldicetus teeth and complete sets are occassionally found. A 15 year+ old collection piece.
