This tooth has a rich tan crown and a light tan colored root. Excellent colors! Sharp cutting edge. The rear top of root has a "shoulder" build up, a characteristic of Isurus retroflexus. An EXTRA LARGE Top Quality, Carcharodon hastalis, Mako shark tooth (lower anterior jaw tooth) from the Lee Creek mine, Aurora, No. Carolina. Note - This tooth exhibits the classic characteristic shape of the middle Miocene Mako teeth found both in the Lee Creek mine and the NC red site. I do not see this Mako tooth shape from other Miocene deposits. Possibly a hastalis species variation and it is referred to as the "narrow form". Maximum size is approximately 2".
