A Very Large, Rare, Top Quality Elongoolithus, Oviraptor dinosaur, egg from the Xixia Basin, Henan Province, China. A July Fossil of the Month. The elongoolithus eggs are well known and belong to Oviraptors. This specimen exhibits exceptional preservation and completeness with minimal compression. The oviraptors laid their eggs in a two layer clutch or nest pattern (see photo). This egg is from the Late Cretaceous  Gaogou Formation (Cenomanian to Coniacian stages, approximately 100 to 86 million years ago). An old collection piece. No repair or restoration.
