Other US Theropods / Troodontids

The category contains teeth from other US theropod dinosaur species including Avisaurus, Paronychodon, Pectinodon, Richardoestesia, Sauronitholestes, and Troodon

Avisaurus - is an extinct primitive toothed bird from the Enantiornithine bird family. A genus of Enantiornithine bird from the Late Cretaceous of North America with two known species. They looked very much like birds except for the claws on the end of their arms and jaws with teeth!

Paronychodon - was a theropod dinosaur genus, and thought to be in the Troodonidae family.  This a late Cretaceous dinosaur that lived from the Campanian to Maastrichian (70 to 66 MYA). So, they were present in the Judith River and Hell Creek Fm. Teeth Have been found, but not much else to describe this theropod. Note - Paronychodon teeth are typically found with Richardoestesia teeth and they may be related much like the recent Sauronitholestes & Zapsalis teeth description (where Zapsalis in the Judith River Fm. is now described as the premaxillary tooth).

Pectinodon -  Pectinodon is an extinct genus of troodontid theropod dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous period (66 mya). It currently contains a single valid species, Pectinodon bakkeri. This was a small theropod with teeth similar to, but smaller than Troodon. There are no serrations on the anterior side of the tooth.

Richardoestesia - was a theropod dinosaur genus, and thought to be in the Troodonidae family.  This a late Cretaceous dinosaur that lived from the Campanian to Maastrichian (70 to 66 MYA). So, they were present in the Judith River and Hell Creek Fm. Teeth have been found, but not much else to describe this theropod. Note - Richardoestesia teeth are typically found with Paronychodon teeth and they may be related much like the recent Sauronitholestes & Zapsalis teeth description (where Zapsalis in the Judith River Fm. is now described as the Sauronitholestes premaxillary tooth).

Troodon - Troodon and other Troodontids are a smaller, bird-like dinosaur that lived in western N. America during the late Cretaceous Period. They are part of the part of the Deinonychosauria clade. There was one named No. American species from the Judith River Fm. of Montana - Troodon formosus. Recently the North American Troodontid has been lump into two new genera - Stenonychosaurus and Latenivenatrix mcmasterae(van der Reest & Currie, 2017). Troodontids are know for a large brain, large eyes, and a very unique shaped tooth. The Hell Creek Fm. Troodontid has not been described, but it shares the same very unique tooth as all Troodontids do.
