What is a fossil?

It depends on who you ask. A collector may tell you that dinosaur fossils for sale are amazing artifacts from a prehistoric world. Paleontologists at Idaho State University explain more scientifically. There are two kinds of fossils as well as two ways that fossils are made. Body fossils are the mineralized remains of plants or animals that lived and died in the geologic past. Trace fossils such as dinosaur tracks are stony indicators that long-ago life was present at a particular place and time. Bodies and traces may be preserved with or without alteration. Non-alteration modes of preservation include mummification and freezing. Shells remains are also considered unaltered fossils. According to ISU, preservation modes that do alter remains include permineralization and carbonization. Fossils are clues that paleontologists use to learn about animals that have gone extinct. Fossil remains such as dinosaur bones, teeth, and tracks offer fantastic evidence of life on earth long before there were humans to write history.     A rare Top Quality, Allosaurus fragilis  tooth. This Allosaurus crown measures 1-3/4" and it remains on its original Morrison Fm. matrix. The enamel is highest quality. Great rich dark brown color. Excellent serrations. Great overall condition and serrations. No restoration. Allosaurus was the apex predator during the late Jurassic with large teeth designed to slash predators. Legally collected on private land in the Morrison Fm., Grand Co., Utah.     An Ultra Rare, rooted Top Quality Allosaurus fragilis tooth measuring 3-3/8". This Allosaurus crown measures 1-1/2" and is wide for its size (5/8"). The enamel is high quality. Great rich brown color. Very good serrations on both sides all the way to the wear facet. Very good serrations for a large tooth. Two cracks was stabilizied. A little repair was done on the narrowest section of the root. Excellent overall condition with very good serrations. An excellent quality tooth! Allosuarus was the apex during the late Jurassic with large teeth designed to slash predators. Legally collected on private land in the Morrison Fm., Moffat Co., Colorado. Authenticity guaranteed.  Note - a Riker case display is included. This is a special rooted Allosaurus tooth!

The enamel is high quality. Great rich brown color. Excellent serrations on both sides all the way to the tip. Exceptional serrations for a large tooth. Root cracks were stabilized. A small tip repair was done by George Heslep. Excellent overall condition with very good serrations. An excellent quality tooth! Allosuarus was the apex during the late Jurassic with large teeth designed to slash predators. Legally collected on private land in the Morrison Fm., Moffat Co., Colorado.
