An excellent Scaldicetus sp., a Sperm whale, tooth from Caldera area of Chile. An incredible late Miocene Sperm whale tooth from the Bahia Inglesa Fm. This tooth has great preservation, fantastic brown color, and clean from matrix. No repair or restoration. Note - This tooth exhibits the classic characteristic shape of the middle Miocene Mako teeth found both in the Lee Creek mine and the NC red site. I do not see this Mako tooth shape from other Miocene deposits. Possibly a hastalis species variation and it is referred to as the "narrow form". Maximum size is approximately 2". This tooth has a rich tan & blue crown and a tan colored root. Excellent colors!  Razor sharp cutting edge. Excellent preservation - note nutrient hole on root. It is a Miocene tooth from the Pungo River Fm. An excellent collector's tooth. Authenticity guaranteed.
