An ultra rare, LARGE Top Quality Edestus heinrichi shark whorl with 7 big crowns, from Herrin, Illinois. An October Fossil of the Month. This is a Paleozoic shark that lived in swamps that our now underground coal deposits. Excellent preservation and serrations. This whorl is incredible teeth detail - the first 5 crowns are all natural and the the last two have some top repair. One of the finest whorls that I have had. The Edestus shark would have an upper and lower tooth whorl that are vertically opposed. Research showed that they could use their opposing teeth in a scissor-like motion to cut prey. It is the first animal to cut vertically. A very strange looking and unique acting shark. Shark recreation image is credited to Julio Lacerdo. These rare teeth are Pennsylvanian age from Illinois. Note - Two crown tips were professionally retored. Authenticity guaranteed. Two very nicely preserved Scyphocrinites elegans crinoids from Alnif, Morocco. The Scyphocrinites crinoid was a floating variety which was attached to a holdfast air bladder that supported multiple stems and calyx ("flower"). These crinoids have a bulbous calyx with incredible detail. The upper crinoid has a stem section of 2-1/2". These crinoids make fantastic display pieces. Matrix size: 12" x 9". An incredible multi-specimen example on a reasonably sized piece of matrix. A Top Quality Tyrannosaurus rex tooth from a small adult Rex. This Rex crown measures 2" (straight line) and is nicely exposed in its original Hell Creek Fm. matrix. The enamel is highest quality. Great rich dark chocolate brown color. Good anterior serrations (mostly covered) and exceptional serrations on the posterior side. There is a very small wear facet on the tip which is typical for a adult tooth from opposing teeth wear. Two cracks have been stalibized. No repair or restoration. A 100% natural tooth! Fantastic overall condition with incredible serrations for a large Rex tooth. An EXTRA LARGE, Top Quality Struthiomimus altus upper toe bone or metatarsal (from toe III - metatarsal - the arctometatarsal) from the late Cretaceous of North America. Struthiomimus is a long legged, bipedal, toothless dinosaur found in the Hell Creek formation. The Struthiomimus means "ostrich mimic" which best describes this species. This is metatarsal III which is an arctometatarsals, a shaped wedged metatarsal that strengthened the foot and improved agility. Arctometatarsals are present in Tyrannosaurs, Ornithomimimids and a few other dinosaur species. Excellent bone quality and color. This metatarsal bone is nearly complete. Excellent bone preservation. The Scyphocrinites crinoids were floating crinoids and their holdfast was actually an air bladder that supported multiple stems and calyx. This holdfast is bulbous with a fantastic detail. A peg stand is included as in the photos. These crinoid holdfasts make excellent fantastic display pieces.
