Possibly an attempt to create serrations. There have been some C. hubellii GW transition teeth found in the mine.  This tooth has a rich tan crown and a light tan colored root. An incredible polished Goniatites sp., an early ammonite-like cephalopod showing the intricate internal chamber structure.
