A top quality, large Phareodus fish. The Phareodus encaustus is a Osteoglossidae fish from the Eocene age (50 MYA) fish, Green River Fm., Lincoln Co. Wyoming. The Phareodus was a carnivorous fish with large pointed teeth and a long pectoral fin. This piece is from the Split Fish Layer and shows fantastic detail. Excellent preservation and preparation. No repair. All natural. An excellent display piece!

A top quality, extra large Phareodus fish. The Phareodus encaustus (a Osteoglossidae fish) is 7-1/2" in length with a body thickness of ~3". The Phareodus was a carnivorous fish with large pointed teeth and a long pectoral fin. This species has been found with other fish in its stomach. This specimen shows incredible detail. Exceptional preservation and preparation. Wonderful display piece. The Phareodus is an uncommon fish in the Green River Fm. This is an exceptional big fish. A Museum Quality specimen!
