Carcharocles auriculatus
This catalog contains excellent teeth from Carcharocles auriculatus, the first Giant White shark to evolve which would eventually lead to the Megalodon shark in the Miocene. C. auriculatus teeth are noted for their triangular crown and very large side cusps which are heavily serrated. These teeth are from the Upper Eocene (38 million years ago).
Look Beyond Size When Selecting a Specimen
Each fossil tooth has a unique appearance, and those differences are part of what collectors look for. When browsing an auriculatus shark tooth, pay attention to its size and condition, then consider how the specimen looks as a whole. Natural wear or variations in shape may also influence which tooth stands out to you. This gives you more to consider than size alone when selecting one for your collection.
Take time to browse the available photos and see which fossil catches your attention. Since each specimen has its own look, the images make it easier to find one that suits your collection or display. Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a minimum order amount? Yes. Buried Treasure Fossils has a $15 minimum order. If the auriculatus shark tooth you select does not meet that amount on its own, you can browse other available fossils to complete your order.
Why do some auriculatus shark teeth have different colors? Fossil teeth can develop different coloration during the fossilization process. As a result, specimens of the same species may have noticeably different shades and patterns. These natural color differences can give each tooth its own distinct appearance.
When are advertised discounts applied to my order? Any advertised discounts that apply to your purchase are deducted before the order payment is processed. Discount codes will be provided and the code must be entered on the checkout page. This means the applicable discount will be reflected as part of the final order processing.
Should I clean an auriculatus shark tooth after receiving it? Routine cleaning is generally unnecessary for a fossil that arrives ready for a collection. Avoid using household cleaners or attempting to alter the tooth, particularly if you are unsure how the material will react. Keeping the tooth in its received condition also avoids unnecessary handling that could affect the specimen.
