    Overview

An Ultra Rare, Top Quality, LARGE Anzu wyliei hand (manus) claw from the Hell Creek Fm. of SE Montana. Another July 2019 Fossil of the Month. Anzu, a giant oviraptor,  is referred to as the "Chicken from Hell" as it grew to 11 feet long and 600 lbs. An exceptional manus claw. High quality rich brown color and patina. This specimen has incredible perservation with fantastic surfaces - no pitting, nicks, wear or crushing - superb surface articulation! The claw profiles are straight as an arrow. The proximal end is exceptional. This is a killer claw! There is some professional restoration which is typical for a big Anzu wyliei manus claw. The tip has a small section repaired - about 1/4" at the largest point (see photos - slight change in color). A few cracks were stabilized which is also typical.  An incedible quality, collector's claw. Legally collected on private land in the Hell Creek Fm., Garfield Co., Montana. Museum Quality. Authenticity guaranteed. One of my favorites!  Note - a Riker frame will be included.

    DA01       Size: 3-3/16" (always straightline)

Anzu wyliei or the "feathered demon" was a very large oviraptor that lived in the upper Cretaceous period (Hell Creek Formation), and was formally described in 2014.  Anzu, a giant oviraptor, was nicknamed the "Chicken from Hell" since it is among the largest feathered dinosaurs ever found in North America. This dinosaur is characterized by a toothless beak, long arms ending with large claws, and long powerful legs. This raptor was most likely an omnivore feeding on small animals, vegetation, and possibly eggs. The late Cretaceous specimens grew to 13 feet and 600 pounds. Fossil remains include well preserved bones and large claws. Their large claws are highly prized by collectors. These top quality specimens were all legally collected from private lands in the northwestern US. Late Cretaceous, Hell Creek Fm. (or equivalent), 66 MYA.

    Note -

    1. These claws are the fossilized bone core of the actual claw. The bone core would be covered with a keratin or (a nail-like substance) that would increase the length by a minimum of 50%. Anzu had big, sharp claws!

    2. This Hell Creek Formation oviraptor was previously mis-identified as Chirostenotes.
