About the Togo Locality -
The area around Hahotoe, Togo (West Africa) has phosphate mines that
produce Middle Eocene age marine fossils dating to
the Lutetian stage (~45 million years ago). Shark teeth from this
location are a creamy butterscotch to brown colored with white roots. The shark
teeth also exhibit exceptional preservation and many possess extraordinary size
- particularly the Brachycarcharias and Serratolamna species.
This is a first time offering and a very rare
opportunity to build a collection Middle Eocene fossil shark teeth from Togo
(West Africa)!

Isurus praecursor - Extinct
Early Mako
This catalog contains exceptional teeth from
Isurus praecursor, the earliest Mako shark. I. praecursor
teeth are noted for a narrow non-serrate crown. The Togo site Isurus are exceptionally preserved and colorful.
I do not see these
top quality, early Mako teeth too often!

Togo Shark Tooth Collection
This offering contains a mixture of good quality shark teeth
including five species -
Brachycarcharias, Galeocerdo, Isurus, Physogaleus,
and
Serratolamna. The mining process used in Togo damages many of the teeth
and there is a large amount of teeth that can not be sold as first quality. Each
group of teeth will however include many incredibly preserved specimens and
exceptionally sized specimens. All five species will be represented in each lot.
