Chilean Giant Megalodon (C122) -

The Chilean phosphate area has produced some giant Megalodon teeth. Occasionally a 6" tooth is found, rarely a 6-1/2" Meg is found, and one or two 7" teeth have been reported. Unfortunately, many of these teeth are destroyed or damaged while digging or while cleaning the extra hard matrix from the teeth. Rarely does one survive with the crown and root intact.

C122 is one of those ever so rare giant Megalodon teeth that survived. No doubt that this tooth came from one of the 50 foot monsters that roamed the late Miocene and early Pliocene seas approximately 4 million years ago. This monster upper jaw tooth measures 6-1/2" and weights nearly 1-1/2 pounds. It may well be the second heaviest, complete, matrix free giant Megalodon tooth known from the Chile site. This tooth has no repair. I typically do not purchase these extra large Megalodons because the quality is poor. This one was to nice to pass up. Definitely a Museum Quality - extra rare specimen! Catalog number  - C122.

Tooth statistics:

6-1/2"  Slant height - long side
6-5/16"  Slant height - short side
5-1/2"  Width

C122 Photographs  (Click on photos to enlarge.) -

A beautiful tan crown with a red bourlette and root. There is essentially no enamel peel (front and rear) which is unheard of with a tooth this size.
The tooth has exceptional preservation giving the crown enamel incredible gloss - front and rear.
The root is incredibly wide (5-1/2") and thick (1-3/4"). I never saw a Meg this wide. It definitely ranks among the largest and heaviest Megs known.
The serrations are complete and sharp all the way from the root to the tip.
The serrations are sharp and cutting edges have no dings.
The serrations themselves are gorgeous - extra long.
The tip is exceptional. Rarely seen on a tooth this size.
Extra clean edges. No pitting. Exceptionally clean surfaces.
Excellent symmetrical shape - about a triangular as they come.
Extra glossy. Extra wide. Extra rare. No matrix.
