Scientific Name

Common Name

Carcharocles auriculatus       (Early Eocene form)  Early Extinct Giant White shark
Otodus aksuaticus                   (Serrated Otodus)  Early Extinct Mackerel shark - Transitional Auric
Otodus obliquus                       (Early Eocene form)  Early Extinct Mackerel shark

This catalog contains very rare, early Eocene teeth representing the transition from Otodus oliquus to C. auriculatus, the first Giant White shark. All of these Otodus teeth may be transitionals. These transition teeth are incredibly rare and almost never seen in the US.  Absolutely NO restoration or repair in this group! Try finding one of these species with the rare copper red colors!

Otodus obliquus - is the ancestor to C. auriculatus (and C. megalodon), and exhibits a rather narrow & square root with well pronounced root lobes. The crown is sharp blade with no serrations.

Otodus aksuaticus - is a transitional form between O. obliquus to C. auriculatus, and exhibits well pronounced medium to light serrations covering the lower 3/4 to 1/2 of the crown.

Carcharocles auriculatus - is the ancestor to C. megalodon, and exhibits well pronounced medium to heavy serrations covering the crown and irregular side cusp serrations. The earliest form look very much like a serrated Otodus tooth.

Note - all teeth sizes are slant height unless otherwise noted. Click on photos to enlarge. Catalog updated May 22, 2007. You never see early Eocene Auriculatus and Otodus transition teeth from a US location! This is a very special offering!
