The Isurus hastalis is an earlier form Big-Tooth Mako found in the Pungo River Formation (Middle Miocene - ~15 mya) at the Lee Creek site. These early Isurus hastalis have a very distinct tooth form. The upper jaw teeth exhibit a narrower and typically curved crown than the later stage Isurus xiphodon teeth.
