The shark teeth coming out of Chile are incredible! This site contains one of the finest late Miocene-Pliocene marine fossils assemblages known. Preservation and condition of these fossil teeth are incredible! Update (2/5/2009)- The supply of newly dug Chilean fossils has stopped. I can not acquire any new material and prices are increasing rapidly. The value of these teeth are on the rise. The "good old days" of abundant, high quality Chilean fossils are gone. The Chilean fossils sites have been shut down since 2006.**
About the Chilean Locality -Incredible shark teeth are dug in the Caldera phosphate mining area of the Atacama Desert, near Copiapo in north central Chile. They date from lower Pliocene Bahia Inglesa Formation to possibly the upper Miocene (approx. 4-6 million years ago). The shark teeth exhibit fantastic coloration, preservation, and condition. Being a land site, the detail and preservation exhibited by these shark teeth are nothing less than outstanding - some of the finest marine fossils known. These are absolutely beautiful shark teeth with tan to orange or blue - pink crowns and orange to mahogany-red roots. Note - formation name has been revised from Huarra Fm. to Bahia Inglesa Fm. to reflect recent scientific publications. Click on photos below to enlarge.
